Kiara Smith - Director
Kiara Smith - Director
Born and raised in Detroit and the oldest of six children, caring for little ones has always been a natural part of my life. What began at age 14 caring for family and friends eventually grew into a career in early childhood education.
My experience as an infant and toddler teacher in Metro Detroit childcare centers gave me a strong foundation in early learning and development. Later, becoming a private nanny showed me the value of slower, more personalized care, not only for the child, but for the entire family.
I created Kreative Buttercups School to bring the best of those experiences together: the intentionality of a quality early learning program, the individualized care of a nanny, and the warmth and guidance I experienced in my grandmother's home.
My philosophy is simple: children are capable. I give them as many yeses as possible while teaching them how to navigate the occasional no. They're given room to explore, make choices, try, make mistakes, and try again.
My hope is that every Buttercup leaves our little school more confident, curious, independent, and prepared for whatever comes next.
We're not just preparing children for school. We're cultivating healthy humans.

I was so blessed to have my girls attend Kreative Buttercups. They are both on to kindergarten, and still talk about attending and wanting to go back. This is more than daycare. This is a loving fostering environment that provides enriching learning opportunities for young kids and toddlers. My kids were always exited to go. They always loved to show off about the things learned while there. I can say their experience there has had a life long impact on their development. Thank you so much for the love you showed my girls, like they were your own

My children spent a significant amount of time at Kreative Buttercups at the start of the pandemic. I count it a blessing that I was able to have such a place. It was clean, safe, had great wi-fi for my school aged daughters, and they were fed healthy meals. I was able to work and not worry about the well-being of my children. I knew they were in good hands. Kiara not only loves what she does, but she's also good at it. This is evident in the relationships she builds with the families she serves.
